In 2019, an innovative group of podcast execs sat down together to create something entirely new: The Podcast Academy. A professional membership organization set to propel the industry forward. Spearheaded by key stakeholders at companies including Wondery, Sony Music Entertainment, Spotify, NPR, iHeart and more, TPA built a membership of over 2000 podcast creators and execs in their first year, and a reputation for galvanizing events including the Ambies podcast awards. Ahead of the first-ever Ambies, The Podcast Academy hired work x work to create a visual identity and strategic creative direction. for the organization.
After meeting with Academy leadership and researching the legacy of professional membership organizations, we put forward a new look for The Podcast Academy that centers its members. Bridging both the tactile and digital roots of the audio medium, we generated a logo mark for TPA inspired by newsprint and water forms. The art direction creates space for new members to see themselves as part of the academy, while announcing artistry and excellence.
