When the creators of the wildly popular podcast Welcome to Night Vale were gearing up to publish Unlicensed, their newest Audible Original, they turned to work x work to transform the launch into something truly unforgettable. 

Co-creators Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor are no strangers to making audio magic. Their series Welcome to Night Vale sparked a revolution in fiction storytelling and a devoted fanbase to match. The new show, Unlicensed, is a thriller noir that travels through towns on the outskirts Los Angeles following the path of two mismatched detectives on a surreal cold case.

To bring Unlicensed to life, work x work reimagined the podcast as a staged live read with the cast, complete with scene lighting and a live score by musician Disparition. Audiences in the room got a first-listen of the show, followed by an exclusive talkback on the making-of with Joseph and Jeffrey. Watch the video here.

Appropriately, we hosted the launch inside an iconic LA landmark, KCRW Studios in Santa Monica. We live streamed it out to fans and produced the live read and talkback as a video.
