Object of Sound Experience
CREATIVE & DESIGN | EXPERIENTIAL | CONTENT PRODUCTION
As ongoing partners of Sonos and producers of four seasons of Object of Sound, the leading audio tech brand asked work x work to create an immersive experience dedicated to the music and culture podcast. Collaborating with host Hanif Abdurraqib, we designed and fabricated the vibrant listening lounge, rich with opportunities to “step-inside” and connect with the premier music storytellers of our time. The experience premiered at Wythe Hotel, Brooklyn in February 2023.
The Object of Sound ethos was intricately woven into the experiential design; each element in the room, from original vinyl and cassettes to books, keepsakes and posters all prompted visitors to scan a QR code, directing listeners to specific episodes. In pointing back to music storytelling content, audiences journeyed through the series and were encouraged to hunt for artifacts referring to episodes and musicians they know and love. The hundreds of hours of content collected on site (from intimate recorded messages to personal song selections) provided the content for the a work x work produced bonus episode of Object of Sound, “The Sound of Where You Come From“, featuring Hanif and artist Angélica Negrón of Balún.
The Object of Sound experience was featured in Wired Magazine, highlighting work x work’s innovative work in shifting how audio programming can resonate beyond headphones.
